From Mobile Med to Retro Health: How a Better Kind of Practice Was Born in Columbus

There’s a version of healthcare most people have come to accept — not because it’s good, but because they don’t know another way exists. They show up to an appointment scheduled six weeks in advance. They wait. They get eleven minutes with a provider they’ve seen twice before. They leave with a prescription, a referral, and the quiet feeling that their actual questions never quite got answered.

For too long, that was the standard. For the founders of Retro Health & Aesthetics, it was the problem they couldn’t stop thinking about.

The Frustration That Started Everything

In 2019, two emergency medicine providers with years of experience in fast-paced clinical environments made an unlikely decision: they slowed down on purpose.

Working in emergency medicine meant seeing patients at their most vulnerable — but it also meant witnessing the downstream consequences of a primary care system stretched too thin. Patients who had gone years without a real physical. Chronic conditions caught late because nobody had time to look closely. People who felt, accurately, that the system wasn’t built for them.

The traditional clinic model wasn’t broken for lack of talented providers. It was broken by design — optimized for volume, not outcomes. Twenty-five patients a day. Fifteen minutes per appointment. Documentation eating what little time was left.

So they built something else.

Mobile Med launched in Columbus as a concierge-style urgent care practice built around one guiding principle: what if the patient actually had time? Time to explain what was going on. Time to be heard. Time for the provider to think — not just react.

“Retro Health honors the nostalgic ideal of healthcare as a relationship, not just a service — while embracing innovative approaches to aesthetics and wellness.”

House calls came back. Panel sizes stayed intentionally small. Response times were measured in hours, not days. And patients who had spent years feeling like a number in a waiting room found something they hadn’t expected from a doctor’s office: relief.

Primary Care Deepens: Dr. Recker Joins the Team

Word of mouth is the oldest marketing in medicine, and it works best when the care is real. As Mobile Med grew, so did the complexity of what patients were asking for. They didn’t just want urgent care. They wanted a provider who knew their full picture — their history, labs over time, and goals — not just their current complaint.

In January 2022, Dr. Bethany Recker, MD joined as Primary Care Medical Director, and the practice expanded into full-spectrum concierge primary care. Dr. Recker brought expertise in family medicine, hormone optimization, and medical weight management — and a philosophy that aligned with what Mobile Med had been building from day one: care that treats the whole person, not just the presenting problem.

Annual exams became comprehensive wellness workups. Lab interpretation went deeper than reference ranges. And the practice began attracting patients who were done settling for reactive care and ready to invest in something proactive.

Harmony Wellness & Body: When Aesthetics Met Medicine

By 2023, a pattern had emerged in patient conversations that was too consistent to ignore. People were asking about their hormones — not just because something felt off, but because they wanted to feel genuinely good. They were asking about weight management as a clinical priority, not just a cosmetic one. And they were asking, sometimes hesitantly, about aesthetics — about looking as well as they wanted to feel.

Harmony Wellness & Body launched to meet that demand directly. With Maggie Howard, FNP-C and Lynn Pruett, MS, FNP-C joining the team, the practice could now offer neurotoxin treatments, dermal fillers, laser therapies, hormone optimization, and medicated weight management — all delivered with the same clinical rigor and personal attention that had defined Mobile Med from the beginning.

One Name. One Vision. Retro Health & Aesthetics.

On July 1, 2025, Mobile Med and Harmony Wellness & Body came together under a single brand: Retro Health & Aesthetics.

The name says something intentional. Retro isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake — it’s a nod to the version of medicine that existed before the system got complicated. The unhurried house call. The provider who knew your name before you sat down. The appointment that ended when the conversation was finished, not when the clock ran out.

The tagline — Classic Medicine. Functional Solutions. Beauty Redefined. — captures what Retro Health actually delivers: primary care grounded in relationship, wellness optimization backed by evidence, and aesthetics with medical precision.

Today, the practice operates in Columbus, Ohio with a team that includes Dr. Recker, Gregory LaFontaine PA-C, Maggie Howard FNP-C, and Lynn Pruett FNP-C — supported by a staff that treats every patient interaction as the most important one of the day.

What Membership at Retro Health Looks Like

Retro Health operates on a membership model — not because it’s trendy, but because it’s the only structure that actually protects what patients are paying for: time and access.

  • Heritage — The foundation of direct primary care. Comprehensive annual exams, same-day or next-day appointments, in-home visits, and direct provider access.
  • Curator — Built for patients ready to go beyond reactive care. Adds wellness optimization, expanded lab panels, and a proactive prevention focus.
  • Legacy — Total optimization. The full Retro Health experience — primary care, comprehensive hormone and wellness management, and priority access across all services.

Aesthetic services and one-time visits are also available for patients who aren’t ready for membership — because the goal has always been access, not gatekeeping.

A Practice Built for People Who Expect More

Retro Health & Aesthetics exists because its founders couldn’t find the kind of practice they wanted to work in — so they built it. The patients who find their way here are usually coming from somewhere else. From providers they liked but couldn’t reach. From systems that felt impersonal. From years of managing their own health because nobody had the time to help them manage it better.

Classic medicine. Functional solutions. Beauty redefined. That’s not a slogan. It’s what they built.
